Melanie and Larry’s wedding day inspiration was the ocean! They had a beach themed wedding and their colors were Malibu blue and silver. Melanie said, “We decided to keep religion out of our wedding and make it just about us by writing our own vows for the ceremony.” They even had their son and daughter as the ring bearer and flower girl during the ceremony.
Melanie used Pinterest to get a lot of ideas for wedding décor. She said “My mom and I found some really good ideas and then tweaked them to make them our own. The center pieces were DIY. We kept our decorations fairly simple because our venue was beautiful enough and didn’t need very many decorations.” On the wedding day, one of the bride’s friends who is an artist, wrote some of the signs for the various tables. Her favorite decoration was the m&m’s they put on the tables. They were custom made and had the bride and grooms names and wedding date written on them. Some of the m&m’s even had their picture on them!
The flowers were a huge part of their wedding! In the bride’s words, “My mom’s friend, Bobbi Jindra, did all the florals and she did such an amazing job. We decided to use silk flowers, which I am so glad we did. Now I get to keep my bouquet in perfect shape forever. We had flowers decorating the aisles of the ceremony that we were able to bring into the reception for added decoration after the ceremony. We also had flowers fastened to our arch, that we got married in front of, which looked awesome in pictures. I used Pinterest as my inspiration and Bobbi was able to make my ideas come to life.”
Melanie and Larry personalized the ceremony by writing their own vows. Also, the DJ encouraged them to personalize the song lists as much or as little they wanted. They requested quite a few songs that meant a lot to them. Melanie said, “We are big country fans, so there was definitely a lot of country music thrown in. One of my favorite parts of the wedding day was the speeches at the reception by my parents and the best man and maid of honor. I loved hearing what they all had to say! I also had a blast getting ready before the ceremony with my girls.”
Melanie found her dress at the first place she went to and thought it was perfect for a summer beach wedding. It was simple, but beautiful. It was strapless with just enough beading at the top. It was also very light weight and flowy, which made it easy to get around in, and was comfortable to wear all evening. Her hair was inspired by Pinterest as well. She went with a half up look and incorporated one of her grandmothers old pins into it. Melanie said “I don’t know much about makeup, so I didn’t have very many ideas about how my makeup should look, but Peggy did an amazing job with it. I knew I wanted my husband to stand out a bit in pictures. So we had him wearing a darker gray tux and the groomsmen wearing a lighter gray tux. They had blue ties to match the bridesmaids dresses.”
From Melanie, “Larry and I met randomly in Florida. He was there for training and I was there on a trip with a couple of my friends. It just so happened that we lived about 4 hours from each other at the time. We did long distance for 3 years because I was still in school. He proposed to me after about a year and a half. I was finishing up my PT degree in St. Louis and he came to visit one weekend. We had planned to go to the top of the St. Louis arch that weekend and that’s where he decided to propose. He’s not very good at keeping secrets, so I kind of knew it was coming, but it was still one of the best days of my life.”
From Melanie, “I think there were two most anticipated or special moments of our wedding day. The first would be sharing our vows at the ceremony. We decided to write our own vows, which I thought made the ceremony very special to us, and let everyone there be a part of our relationship. We were also able to add some humor to the ceremony, which I think everyone appreciated. The other moment was when my husband, Larry, shared a dance with his daughter, Lola. It was such a sweet moment and I am so glad we decided to do that.”
Melanie said, “My biggest advice would be to plan as best as you can before the wedding, so that you can just enjoy your wedding day stress free. My mom was a huge help and did such a great job with the planning and organizing. I really didn’t have to worry about a thing on wedding day. We knew exactly where everyone was going to be, when everyone was going to be there, and who was doing what so that nothing got missed. It also helped that all of our vendors were so wonderful and made sure everything went off without a hitch.”
